Tradies Survival Guide for Winter

Winter is here. No matter where you are in Australia, it's likely that you will be shivering on your way to work.


However, there are ways to reduce the frosty conditions at work and stay warm.

How can you make it through winter?


1. Covering up

Tip number 1: As the temperature drops, rethink your work clothes. Swap singlets. Long sleeves add on, if possible. Beanie & Some other gloves add it to your daily routine. Your role and work conditions will determine the safety of your new workwear.

Other methods that can be pretty effective include wearing a lighter undershirt and thicker socks. You don't need to wear the entire thermals. After a few hours of labor, it will be difficult for you to cool down. Layers that are easy to remove and put on as you need them will make you feel more comfortable indoors. Showerproof hoodies can be used to keep the wind out and protect from light rain.


2. Safety Footwear

Raining means that it is slippery and you are at risk of losing balance. You don't have to worry if you have a pair of solid shoes. Safety Footwear. It's essential to keep your feet dry and warm, as well as for safety and health. These are some things to keep in mind when you are looking for the perfect pair of boots.

  • To resist crushing, reinforced toes

  • Soles that absorb shock

  • To keep moisture out, materials such as latex neoprene or vulcanized rubber can be used.

  • Flexibility allows freedom of movement

  • Long shifts require comfort and breathability.

  • Protection against chemicals and wear and tear.


3. Eat properly

Although your diet may not seem to be an essential factor in keeping you warm (although a hot cup of coffee or hot lunch can help), it can play a significant role in protecting you from getting sick.


To help prevent the spread of nasty bugs on your worksite, you might consider increasing your vegetable intake. Sick days are not only annoying but can also result in lost income for many tradespeople working in non-permanent positions.

Noting that extreme temperature changes can cause sickness, it's worth noting. The extra layers mentioned above are more than comfort; they protect you from getting sick.

You don't have to sacrifice your health whether you are employed full-time, a student of building and construction courses or a contract worker.


4. Make sure your vehicle is ready

These jobs are only possible if you have a vehicle. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that your vehicle is prepared for cold weather. You don't want your vehicle to get soaked in the rain.


Ensure that all electrical appliances in your vehicle work properly, including light bulbs, car batteries, and other lighting. This will help prevent problems. If you live in colder regions, it is a good idea to keep deicers inside your car.


5. Have additional supplies convenient

It can be helpful to have some extra food such as a bag of chips or chocolate bars and water in your car. This could help you avoid becoming "Hangry" if you're stuck in your vehicle in potentially dangerous weather.

Keep a bag with backup equipment handy & first aid kit. This could come in handy if you are stuck and you don't have any other options, such as flashlights, ropes, jumper cables, water, or ropes. In addition, you might consider adding clothing like socks, Jackets and hoodies, Jumpers & reflective clothing, for those early dark hours.



6. How to Know When Enough is Enough

It should be evident that extreme weather can cause anyone to stop working until the storm passes. Weather conditions can be severe, such as hail, wind, or icy. Your workplace should have a policy that informs you when it is time to shut down your tools and go indoors.


We wish you all a secure and warm winter. But, of course, it is often better to be safe than sorry.
